Senior Engineering Geologist

About you
In this role, the key responsibilities will include:

  • Coaching and mentoring junior members of the team and maintaining high-quality reporting standards.
  • Developing and maintaining our field data capture procedures.
  • Implementing and managing our internal logging accreditation process.
  • Building and sustaining strong and diverse internal and external client relationships.

To be successful in the role, you will have the following:

  • An earth sciences degree with elective courses in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in soil and rock sampling and logging experience.
  • An interest in maintaining quality and continuous professional development.
  • Building and sustaining strong and diverse internal and external client relationships.
  • Experience specifying, procuring, managing, and reporting geotechnical site investigations.
  • Experience with soil and rock logging and section-making software (gINT, HoleBASE, OpenGround, GeoLogismiki or similar).
  • Experience in conducting field mapping and modelling based on field observations, laboratory test data, and field investigations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in reporting subsurface considerations’ potential impacts on civil and structural design.
  • Experience providing on-site monitoring during construction projects to ensure compliance with engineering recommendations and identifying where ground conditions vary from that assumed by design.
  • An ability and desire to travel regionally.
  • You will also need to hold an unrestricted Australian driver’s license.

The following attributes will be looked upon favourably:

  • Further postgraduate degree in a related engineering subject (e.g., MSc. Or Doctorate in Engineering or the Sciences).
  • Further professional experience (senior to principal levels applicants will be considered).
  • Membership of a professional organization progressing recognition as a professional engineer or geologist, e.g. the Geological Society of London (FGS), Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) or Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
  • Professional certification (CGeol, RPGeo) or license to practice regionally (RPEQ, RPEV)
  • An interest in digital tools to maintain quality (data collection and digital workflow tools) and improve communication of ground conditions such as mapping and modelling tools (GIS mapping, 2D and 3D modelling software).
  • Experience conducting field mapping, inspections and geohazard assessments for dams and other major infrastructure projects.
