Practice Director – Engineer

About the Role

As the Practice Director, you will be responsible for leading the office both technically and commercially, and actively helping Protest Engineering progress towards its strategic and commercial goals whilst ensuring all operations are kept aligned with the company management and quality systems and policies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of the operational and commercial aspects of the office to ensure the highest delivery standards
  • Management and mentoring of the individual teams to achieve strategic and commercial outcomes
  • Assist with the strategic direction of the office and prepare annual business plans
  • Maintain an open dialogue with the wider business and remain aligned with the overall Protest objectives
  • Support and manage training and cultural objectives – retain and nurture the best talent
  • Manage the tendering and bid processes
  • Manage the risk profile of the branch and understand the context of this for the wider business
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality assurance within our Protest QM system
  • Ensure all management systems and processes are followed
  • Promote the business externally and uphold the brand and status of the business in the industry
  • Maintain and grow the client base in the region and explore new work streams, markets, and sectors – work with the wider business to leverage and maximize all opportunities
  • Build strong and strategic relationships with all clients to ensure stability and growth in the revenue stream
  • Maintain the highest technical standards and implement continual professional development and business improvement across all aspects of the office
  • Contribute to the technical and innovative advancement of the Protest service offering and knowledge base
  • Maintain all compliance and accreditations for the office to align with the overall business
  • Communicate all relevant commercial, technical and operational matters with the Regional Director
  • Foster a culture of open communication internally and externally
  • Provide monthly management and financial reporting
  • Develop and maintain the relevant technical skills within the team
  • Success in this role can lead to significant profit sharing and an equity stake in the business

  • Knowledge of relevant Standards
  • Knowledge of Quality, OHS and environmental compliance requirements
  • Strong local connections within the industry

Qualification & Other Requirements:

  • Current Automatic Class C Driver’s License
  • 10 years overall experience in the industry and 5 years’ management experience
  • Tertiary qualification in a construction related field, preferably Geotechnical or Civil related
  • CPEng preferred but not essential
